Travel to Vicksburg, MS

Noon - 5:00 PM:  Registration at lobby of Hampton Inn –Vicksburg. Meet with other G.B.S.H.H.A. members, new members and guests. Receive printed details of upcoming events.

7:00 PM - 9:00 PM: Welcome/Mixer/Silent Auction. Meet and greet new members and guests. Light refreshments served.

September 1, 2017 - Friday

8:00 AM – 9:15 AM: Travel by auto convoy to Red Bone Church blocking action.

9:15 AM – 9:30 AM:  Return to Hampton Inn for brief rest stop. Please note there are no restroom facilities at Red Bone Church

9:30 AM – Noon: Travel by car convoy to Chickasaw Bayou battlefield.  Tour key positions and discuss actions. Please note there are no restroom facilities at the Chickasaw Bayou site.

Noon – 1:00 PM: Lunch at Rusty’s Riverfront Grill, 901 Washington Street, Vicksburg

1:00 PM – 4:00 PM:  Visit Old Warren County Court House Museum, 1008 Cherry Street, Vicksburg

4:00 PM: Return to Hampton Inn -Vicksburg

7:00 PM - 9:00 PM:  Regimental historian sessions at Hampton Inn-Vicksburg. Display of pictures, letters, artifacts plus new research.

September 2, 2017 – Saturday

8:00 AM – 8:30 AM:  Travel by auto convoy to Exit 27, I-20 at Bolton, MS. Travel into area of Union troop movements.

8:30 AM – 11:30 AM:  Tour Coker House, CSA General Tilghman Monument, Lower Crossing and Union route of attack on CSA Right flank.

11:30 AM – Noon:  Travel to Raymond, MS via MS Highway 467. Please note that there are no restrooms at this part of the battlefield.

Noon – 1:00 PM:  Lunch in Raymond at Potter Kitchen, 112 Clinton Street

1:00 PM – 3:30 PM:  Tour Champion Hill battlefield key locations - The Crossroads, Baker’s Creek Bridge and Robert’s House Cemetery. Left flank of CSA line defended by 52nd Georgia.

3:30 PM – 4:00 PM:  Rest stop at Edwards, MS. Travel on to Big Black River Railroad Bridge.

4:00 PM – 4:30 PM:  Big Black River Railroad Bridge - Barton’s Brigade withdrew over this bridge retreating to Vicksburg. Rear guard action fought here by other CSA forces.

4:30PM - 5:00 PM:  Return to Hampton Inn – Vicksburg via I-20.

7:00 PM to 10:00 PM: Dinner, guest speaker, awards and door prizes. Enjoy “No Host” buffet dinner, featuring keynote speaker after meal. Dinner will be in a room at Vicksburg Convention Center, 1600 Mulberry Street, Vicksburg.

September 3, 2017 Sunday

8:00 AM to 9:00 AM:  Visit Cedar Hills Cemetery and Confederate statue on Sky Farm Road. Place flags and remember the 81 officers and men of Barton’s Brigade who died in the Vicksburg Campaign from sickness and wounds. Many others lost on the field of battle.

This concludes the formal GBSHHA formal 2017 congress tours.

Travel home safely.

Please plan to attend our Seventeenth Annual Congress in Vicksburg, MS on Labor Day Weekend 2018. We will tour Barton’s position, by regiment; the Vicksburg Battlefield Museum; the Vicksburg Siege line; famous buildings and hospitals; Georgia Memorial Monument; other selected statues.
