The General Barton-Stovall History & Heritage Association pays tribute to the Georgia Confederates who served together in a brigade under General Seth Barton, and later General Marcellus Stovall in the Confederate Army of Tennessee. Made up of the 40th, 41st, 42nd, 43rd, and 52nd Georgia, this brigade fought in 17 battles together from Champion Hill, through the Vicksburg Siege, Missionary Ridge, the Atlanta Campaign, the Tennessee Campaign, and ending at the Battle of Bentonville, North Carolina.
Our association was established in 2002 by descendants of these five Georgia regiments. We issue a monthly newsletter that contains both historical articles and our association’s current news. We call our annual visits to battlefields a Congress, which means coming together. Held in April each year, our Congresses are two days and three evenings of battle site visits, historian presentations, a silent auction, and a culminating banquet. Lifelong friendships have been established from this yearly event.
